Shorn wool production in Australia is expected to be at around the same level as in 2009/10, in spite of lower sheep numbers at the start of the season, according to the latest forecasts from the Australian Wool Production Forecasting Committee released on 16th August 2010. Good seasonal conditions in most parts of eastern Australia are expected to bring higher fleece weights which will offset the lower sheep numbers nationally as well as the poor seasonal conditions in Western Australia. The Committee’s second forecast for the 2010/11 season predicts that shorn wool production in Australia will be at 340 mkg greasy, virtually the same as its estimate of 343 mkg greasy for the 2009/10 season.
